Individual Therapy
Finding the right therapist is often a daunting task and I want to be as helpful as I can. I hope this website gives you a sense my practice, and I also know from my experience that the only way to actually figure out if we are a match is to meet. After browsing around, if you think we could work well together please get in touch. We can schedule a free phone consultation and an intake session, if we so choose. I am a certified AEDP therapist and Supervisor.
If you are here, you are probably experiencing some tension or stress that you would like to overcome. If we work together, we will look to ease or solve this stress by balancing between processing past experiences that inform the way that you are and current experiences that are new and can be transformational. We will explore and nurture the skills and strengths you bring in, while allowing space for the painful, unprocessed parts to come to be processed through experience and talk. Authenticity guides the way I practice and is often an underlying goal for many who seek treatment. I am trained and it is also my natural tendency, to be an active participant in sessions, providing feedback and collaborating to find our path to your goals. My style is warm, compassionate, non-judgmental and direct.
To give you a better idea of how I practice, below is a short summary of the different therapeutic frameworks I work within. I tend to not use any of these exclusively with one specific client, and instead have cultivated my own style based on these trainings and my real live experiences treating clients.

This therapy technique focuses on creating safety to fully feel previously closed off emotions and the healing that comes from this practice. We all have our different origin stories that we have told many times, and perhaps have become a little numb to. AEDP places a strong emphasis not just on the story but on the process of telling it. This process creates the healing from what are often traumatic experiences. For example, in session you can expect me to ask you to slow down, check in with your body and emotional reactions and deepen emerging feelings. This therapy is from the dynamic family of therapies, meaning it is unstructured and relies on the experiences created together in the room.

This therapy technique is designed to help those who have strong emotional experiences gain skills and knowledge on how to regulate them and replace unwanted behaviors with more skillful ones. DBT puts a strong emphasis on analyzing behaviors and coming up with solutions while balancing experiences of acceptance and change. This therapy is from the Cognitive and Behavioral family of therapies meaning that it is more structured and concrete in its nature. For example, in session I can ask for us to focus on analyzing a specific behavior that seems ineffective and look for alternatives, or we can review a skill together or a handout, homework can be assigned between sessions.
DBT has a strong mindfulness component which I have adapted and use often. Mindfulness has been shown to be advantageous in lowering stress, gaining control over thoughts and creating higher awareness of self and reality. I practice mindfulness myself and often incorporate mindfulness exercises into sessions.escription text goes here -
This therapy technique is the closest to what most people think of when they imagine what therapy would look like, and certainly has the most media visibility. The focus of psychodynamic therapy is creating insights by understanding the origins of feelings, experiences and behaviors, often with a strong emphasis on the past. Insight allows for processing, both conscious and unconscious, and allows for change to happen. For example, in sessions I might ask if you remember when you started feeling a particular way, about past relationships and patterns and about how these have made you feel.
